CISC Semiconductor and MET Labs Work Together to Provide GS1 EPC Gen2v2 Compliance Tests

CISC Semiconductor and MET Labs are working together to provide GS1 EPC Gen2v2 compliance testing by June, 2015. CISC will provide this test support on its UHF RFID test equipment.

Klagenfurt (Austria), Baltimore, MD (USA) – 26th March, 2015:

Austrian based CISC Semiconductor as a technology leader in UHF RFID test system development and Maryland-based MET Labs as a GS1-approved test house are collaborating to deliver a validated conformance test tool for GS1 EPC UHF Gen2v2 certification testing. GS1 is a neutral, not-for-profit global organisation that develops and maintains the most widely-used supply chain standards system in the world.

A new version of the EPC Air Interface Standard “Gen2v2” was ratified by GS1 in 2013. Half a year later, they began developing a conformance test specification for new products requiring certification.

The GS1 EPC Gen2v2 conformance test specification, along with the interoperability test specification, are scheduled to be finished this month and ratified in June, 2015. It is an extension of the current test standard with new features like EAS, Tag Alteration with crypto challenge, authentication and consumer electronics.

CISC will provide a test solution supported by both of its test platforms, CISC RFID Xplorer (www.cisc.at/xplorer) and CISC RFID MeETS (www.cisc.at/meets). Both systems are already available for tag performance testing, air interface analysis and conformance tests and can be software-upgraded to become a fully automated Gen2v2 conformance tester with GUI for detailed analysis.

MET Labs (www.metlabs.com) is the official testing provider for the GS1 EPC/RFID Hardware & Software Certification Programmes, and has a special competency in RFID testing to assure safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and tag and reader interoperability.  With FDA and AIMglobal, MET also developed a Program to determine potential adverse effects of RFID emissions on electronic medical devices.  Additionally, MET tests to various ISO & IEC high frequency & ultra-high frequency RFID standards.

“Industry will truly benefit from the collaboration between CISC and MET Labs in the development of an EPC Gen2v2 conformance test that will be used by GS1 to certify EPC Gen2 UHF hardware. This certification provides companies deploying EPC/RFID with peace of mind regarding the standard conformance and interoperability of EPC Gen2v2 UHF devices and will help drive the next wave of EPC/RFID adoption,” says Malcolm Bowden, President GS1 Data Excellence Inc., Global Solutions & GDSN.
