Faculty of Technical Sciences

The Faculty of Technical Sciences has been in existence since 2007. Since then, 7 institutes have developed or been created in the faculty.
The excellent level of supervision provided at the Technical Sciences faculty compared to other universities enables ongoing and supportive exchange to take place between teachers and students at all levels. One key goal of the faculty is to apply excellent research and teaching to create a solid basis so that successful companies can be founded here or encouraged to settle here and established companies can create jobs in the region.

The Technical Sciences faculty has developed various strengths at an international level over the past few years: “Networked and Autonomous Systems”, “Modeling, Simulation, and Optimization of Complex Systems”, “Engineering of Software, Data, and Knowledge-based Systems” and “Multimedia Systems”. These fields of strength are application-oriented and well-established on the international research scene. Within the University of Klagenfurt, the faculty is leading the way in the interdisciplinary research clusters of “Human Centered Computing and Design” and “Self-organising Systems”. Another special feature is the Lakeside Labs GmbH research institute which addresses the issue of self-organising networked systems in information and communication technology and collaborates closely with the corresponding institutes at the University of Klagenfurt.

The exceptional research results and focus on the university’s fields of strength makes the faculty particularly interesting to highly qualified students. The University of Klagenfurt has launched the “Interactive und Cognitive Environments” (ICE) doctoral school together with four European universities. The ICE doctoral college is financed by the European Erasmus Mundus programme of excellence and is the only doctorate programme to be funded in the ICT field.
