Chronology and Goals
Chronology
The first thoughts on how to use the environment surrounding the ALpen-Adria University Klagenfurt to link science and business potential started at the beginning of the nineties. At the turn of the century, these ideas were re-visited, concepts prepared, plans begun and financing negotiated. Groundbreaking for the first construction stage was on May 22, 2003.
Lakeside Park represents a significant milestone in the process of establishing and expanding Carinthia as a high-tech location. The special attributes of this project consist of the physical proximity to the Alpen-Adria University of Klagenfurt, a strong contentual intermeshing with the faculties of its economics and computer science departments and with the Fachhhochschule (College) in Carinthia, as well as its holistic orientation. Domestic and foreign companies are attracted to the Lake Wörth region not only for its expertise in research, development, training, production and services, but also for the world-class quality of life and personal safety it offers. Lakeside is one of two Austrian members in the IASP (International Association of Science Parks), a global technology park network.
On the 220,000 m² site, ca. 14,000 m² was finished in the fall of 2004. After completion of the final expansion phase, about 23,000 m² of leasable office space with a total area of about 26,000 m² are available now. In modular build stages, the built out area, which is predominately intended for use by companies, can be expanded to 40,000 m².
